    The trail in this segment is maintained by the Carolina Mountain Club. All orders are shipped via US First Class Mail, Media Mail, Priority Mail, or Smart Post. The 700+ mile NC 2 Mountains to Sea route serves as the main artery of the North Carolina bicycle route system, bisecting the state west to east. North Carolina's longest trail, the North Carolina Mountains to Sea Trail, is an ambitious project to provide a foot path linking the Mountains in the West to the Coastal Plain in the East. Beware of poison ivy and stinging nettle bordering narrow portions of the trail. Along the trail, you may see mountain vistas, rolling Piedmont farms, picture postcard colonial towns, weathered tobacco barns, old textile villages, country churches, rushing mountain streams, coastal swamps, hardwood and pine forests, lighthouses, sand dunes, miles of seashore, and friendly people. The Mountains to Sea Cycle Trail is primarily graded 3 (intermediate), and varies in terrain from concrete bike paths and boardwalks, quiet country roads and an old cobbled road, to smooth gravel bike track and some testing backcountry singletrack. We chose to do two short sections of the Mountains to Sea Trail. What is the MST? The notion of a trail extending across the width of North Carolina was proposed in 1977 by Howard Lee, who was then the Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Natural Resources and Community Development.
